YASYOGA
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before joining a class, from what to wear to how often to practise.
A calm, supportive approach to yoga
YASYOGA classes are designed to be welcoming, practical and accessible. The focus is on gentle yet invigorating breath-centred movement, thoughtful alignment and using props to support your body.
Below are some of the questions people often ask before coming along.
Doing yoga can improve posture, co-ordination and awareness in everyday
movement, which may help prevent injury. YASYOGA classes use gentle,
breath-centred movement to build strength and flexibility while helping
to release tension. There is also a strong focus on individual anatomy,
alignment and the supportive use of props.
Wear anything comfortable that allows you to move freely. No shoes are
needed. Bare feet are preferred, especially for standing poses, though
socks are absolutely fine if you feel more comfortable wearing them.
Yes. Appropriate movement and exercise can help support bone health and
improve the way you move in daily life. Classes can be adapted so that
you feel supported and safe.
It depends on your lifestyle and your aims. Many people attend two or
three classes each week, though one class a week is still beneficial.
Once you become familiar with the movements, even a short self-practice
of 10 minutes at home can be worthwhile.
Group sessions are generally best suited to people with no injuries or
major concerns, as they are designed as all-level classes. If you have
previous yoga experience and need modifications, these can often be
offered. In private or semi-private sessions, the practice is tailored
more closely to your individual needs. In both settings, props such as
belts, bricks, blocks and bolsters may be used to support your body.
No. Joining in is completely your choice. Some teachers explain what OM
means and how it is used to close the class, but there is never any
pressure to take part. If you would rather not join in, that is
absolutely fine.
